wie bereits auf den HRZ-Software-Webseiten angekündigt, wird die bestehende Version der Anti-Virus-Software Sophos und des Sophos-Clients im Juli 2023 eingestellt (End-of-Life).

Die bisher zur Verfügung gestellten Versionen erhalten dann keine Updates und Sie sind somit nicht mehr länger vor Angriffen geschützt.

Dies gilt ebenfalls für die von der Goethe-Universität bisher bereit gestellte Version von Sophos zur privaten Nutzung.

Um den bestehenden Schutz vor Viren und anderweitigen Bedrohungen aufrecht zu erhalten, müssen alle Endgeräte innerhalb der nächsten Wochen flächendeckend aktualisiert werden. Bitte installieren Sie „SOPHOS Enterprise“ daher zeitnah auf allen Endgeräten, die sich im Besitz der Goethe-Universität befinden. Die entsprechenden Installationsdateien für „SOPHOS Enterprise“ finden Sie auf den HRZ-Webseiten unter:

Auf die Installationsdateien können Sie mit Ihrem HRZ-Login zugreifen. Die Website können Sie nur aus dem Universitätsnetz heraus aufrufen.

Auf der Website finden Sie auch die Nachfolgelösung für die bisher angebotene Version von Sophos für Privatgeräte, „SOPHOS Home“.

Da die Einführung von „SOPHOS Enterprise“ bereits im Gange ist, kann es sein, dass Sie bereits die neue Version auf Ihren Endgeräten installiert haben. In diesem Fall können Sie diese MOTD als Gegenstandslos betrachten.

Wir weisen Sie an dieser Stelle darauf hin, dass nach der IT-Sicherheitsrichtlinie auf allen IT-Systemen ein Schutz gegen Schadsoftware nach dem aktuellen Stand
der Technik einzurichten ist.

Dear Colleagues,

as already announced on the HRZ software websites, the existing version of the Sophos anti-virus software and the Sophos client will be discontinued in July 2023 (end-of-life).

The versions provided so far will then not receive any updates and you will therefore no longer be protected against attacks.

This also applies to the version of Sophos previously provided by Goethe University for private use.

In order to maintain the existing protection against viruses and other threats, all endpoint-devices should be updated across the board within the next few weeks. Therefore, please install "SOPHOS Enterprise" promptly on all endpoint-devices owned by Goethe University. The corresponding installation files for "SOPHOS Enterprise" can be found on the HRZ websites at:

You can access the installation files with your HRZ login. You can only access the website from the university network.

On the website you will also find the successor solution for the previously offered version of Sophos for private devices, "SOPHOS Home".

Since the rollout of "SOPHOS Enterprise" is ongoing, you may already have the new version installed on your endpoint-device. In this case, you can consider this MOTD as irrelevant.

We would like to point out at this point that according to the IT security guideline, protection against malware must be set up on all IT systems in accordance with the current standard of technology.
